The Sidamo region of Southern Ethiopia holds the distinction as one of the three trademarked coffee regions of Ethiopia, alongside Harrar and Yirgacheffe. Sidamo is named after the indigenous ethnic group, the Sidama, and the region lies in the path of the Great Rift Valley leading to lush lands for agriculture. Due to an abundance of resources in the area, the farmers capitalize on the land by intercropping coffee with other sustainable crops to maximize land use and to provide food for their families. Since farming methods are mostly traditional, most farms are organic by default. The exceptional quality of Ethiopian Coffee is due to the genetic flavor diversity within the farms and processing methods resulting in a coffee that is entirely cultivated, harvested and dried using mostly manual systems.
